![]() These food producers will only be 'effective' if they have minimal walking distances (see my section on that too). There is information about all of these in the following sections. You're going to want to chose effective forms of food production and keep on top of how much you need at all times.Įffective forms of food production include Gatherer's Hut + Hunter Lodge nodes, Fishing Huts with more than 50% water coverage, and Crop Fields of decent sizes. When you first set your labourers to harvest resources, have them prioritise harvesting stone and iron from where you plan to put your Forester node.įood production takes precedence over anything else in Banished. This partly because the trees it plants take time to mature, and partly because the land is usually covered with stone and iron. When it is first established, the Forester will produce a meagre amount of logs. This allows you to focus on building food producers and other high priority buildings like the Schoolhouse.Ĭlear stone and iron from your Forester radius The citizens will get their food from the Storage Barn and will warm themselves up in the house when they start to freeze, even if they don't live there. You can get by for the first couple of years with a single house. You can do this with the Wood Cutter as well, but I find that I need them back much more quickly. Only assign someone back as a Blacksmith or Tailor when the inventory of tools and clothes reaches a low level (around 15 for each). Doing this will allow you to maintain the biggest workforce possible for building projects or production. Even when a mid autumn frost hits they can usually still pull out 1400 food.During the early game, a good tip is to reassign your Blacksmith and Tailor to other jobs once they reach their production limit. I don't use the order system for seeds, so I don't have squash yet but they should work better for my climate. ![]() They have done this on multiple crops, beans, watermelons, strawberries, and carrots. The max my 15x18s w/ 2 men in Harsh climate have gotten is 1900 (meaning 950 per guy). When you have 2 guys, there is almost always going to be at least 1 farmer picking crops even if the other is doing other shit. This problem gets magnified if your town gets in a pinch in food/firewood/tools, because they're constantly on the move to get more of those resources and often going far for them. I prefer 2 man fields because in all my time before the mods came out in my original install single man fields would work until my town got above 500 people, and then harvests would go down significantly because that single farmer going for herbs or materials or whatever (even with market right next to him, he could and would still go all the way to the mining sector for no reason I could discern) would really impact harvest time. When I first installed CC I couldn't remember my crop sizes from when I first played (i hadnt reinstalled after an OS and drive reformat), so I just experimented a bit and while I havn't tried all sorts of sizes i've had quite a bit of success with my 18x15 fields surrounded on all 4 sides with roads.
